Published on March 26, 2007 By AzDude In Animated Wallpapers
After downloading the new update to DeskScapes and DreamMaker - DeskScape quit working - Dreams Freeze and when i click on desktop backgrounds nothing can now be loaded from there and all the options at the bottom to resize are gone !! With previous version ALL worked Fine .. I was one of the people not complaining of any problems at all - all Dreams and Dreams uploading under 30mb's worked with no problems My Fix for right now was to unload the new up dates ( using System Restore ) and go back to first version and all is working OK again I'm running Vista Ultimate 64bit version of windows Anybody else with the same problem ? Any Idea Stardock/WC what to do to fix this problem ??? Is it a problem or just Me and my computer ? maybe a Vista 64bit issue ?? Little Help , Please and Thank You ... AzDude ...

I also am having a problem that I could not change dreams with the new version on Vista 64Bit

I know you don't wanna hear it, but people all over are having issues with 64-bit Vista. Frankly, 64-bit's persnickety behavior when it comes to unsigned drivers is the main reason I stuck with the 32-bit version.
Microsoft: Call me when you get it all worked out.

I ran into the same problem and am also running ultimate 64 bit---when the update installs it says cannoy find Vista---needs Vista to work---akes one feel like screaming at the stupid programme ----HELLO ---look coser I am running Vista Ultimte 64bit.

I did not have to go to the extreme of running Restore---just got rid of the two new dreams that I DL'ed today.

I also am awaiting an answer.

We are working on a fix for this right now. It looks like one of the files distributed in this build was a 32-bit edition, which of course has trouble loading under 64-bit Windows.

Yep, confirmed that it is a problem that one of the files that the installer installed is a 32-bit version on some machines ; we're working to figure out why that is happening!

Thank you for your patience while we work this one out, we hope to have a solution very quickly. In the mean time, I would recommend to uninstall and reinstall DeskScapes using Stardock Central to try and work around the problem. So, steps (1) Uninstall DeskScapes from SDC (you can leave your downloaded dreams in tact, no need to delete them!) (2) Reboot (3) Re-install DeskScapes. Hopefully that helps short-term

On a different note, theduk: when did you get that message that you weren't using Ultimate? During the install process while using Stardock Central? While switching backgrounds?

Thanks,
-Jeff

YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY RIGHT! People blamed MS for years for buggy Windows versions. I can attest that since they started the signed drivers programs, none of my machines with signed drivers give me any problem whatsoever. If I install an unsigned driver.... Poof, blue screens start appearing. I would also add I am very unhappy with companies such as ASUS and Promise, and their lack of driver support for either version of Vista.

Good news guys, we figured it out. Had to do with DreamMaker. DreamMaker only needs to be 32bit so it is distributed as such...however it has a file in common with DeskScapes, specifically DreamControl.dll.

So, when DreamMaker gets installed/updated after DeskScapes has been installed, the 64bit dll was overwritten with the 32bit one from DreamMaker, and DeskScape's switching would stop working. We're in the process of reorganizing this so that that doesn't happen!

Thanks for reporting everyone - We'll let you know when the fix is available

i have found that alot of the problems is not with deskscape but with your video drivers being blown to crap when deskscapes is installed. it happens every time when there is an update to deskscapes. if you update deskscapes try having your background as just wallpaper then update-reboot-reinstall video drrivers -reboot- then apply deskscapes make sure that when you apply a new dream, figure out which ones are causing your deskscapes to fail....it also doesn't hurt to turn off DEP...yes the dynamic dreams are the most stable to run....choose you r dreams carefully...

I don't know how to say this, but the 64-bit folks aren't the only ones with the problem. I have 32-bit Vista Ultimate and the updated DeskScapes I installed today no longer works. The Vista version works, so the only change was DeskScapes. Any fix for the rest of us? Courtney
