" Windows - Vista - ReadyBoost "
Published on December 21, 2006 By AzDude In Windows Vista
Great new feature in Windows Vista is " ReadyBoost " what this does is allow you to boost up your ram by using a Thumb ( Flash ) drive connecting to any USB(2)port .So give your Ram a boost , plug in a thumb drive ( the catch though ) is that the thumb drive " must be " of equal or greater value i.e. i'm running 2 gigs of ram so thumb drive must be atleast a 2 gig or higher - a windows pop-up will then appear ( windows does love it's pop-up's ) and ask you if you want to use this drive to boost your Ram , click on that - and it's like having a " Turbo-Charger " built right into your computer and you can pick-up a thumb drive for a song these days with most stores having a sale on them weekly .... Happy Days are here , Read more about this Vista feature click on the link >

Very nice bit of info. Will be interesting to see how well it works. You can pick up a 4GB PNY flash drive for $70, FAR cheaper than RAM

It looks like it's basically a memory caching system. Thanks for the post. I'll have to give it a run in January when school's back in. It'll give me a good excuse to buy a 2GB flash drive...lol!

FWIW, not just any old flash drive will do. I've tried four different drives here at work and none of them are fast enough.

Thanks for the pointer. I'd hate to buy a drive that's not supported.

Does anyone know how to increase the score on Vista? Cause I have a Petium D MNT 64 bit capable with 1GB of Ram and a good Radeon X300 Graphics card that does 3D really well.. but when I tired out vista I got nothing but a 2.2 and I know Ati has beta but how can I increase it? (When I use it again).
I just find it wierd, I meet all the system requirements I just can't get any higher then 2.2 and so I can't really experiance the AERO even though the Adveriser says I can..

2.2 on what category? Your overall score is simply your lowest (bottleneck) score. Upgrade that category, and your score should go up. It's a lot more complicated that that though. You also have to re-run the performance index after making a change...I don't think the score dynamically updates.

I'm still torn about this new feature. It's a nice idea and all but seeing as Flash memory devices have a finite number of read/write cycles this feels a bit like a way to ensure people have to buy flash drives more often. I have no idea how many cycles you get but I have a 4GB pen drive that I've had for quite some time so it will be interesting to see how long it lasts..

Just something to think about.

remember your flash drive has to be equal or larger amount of ram than whats in your computer , a friend with full Vista - not a beta and a legal copy - is reportoning his Kingston thumb drive is working just fine - and the feature is doing what its suppose to do - So maybe if everything done right and you have a legal version - it works !!!!

+++++ UPDATE +++++++ 1-27 '07 Iv'e losded Vista Ultimate on my 'puter with 2 Gigs of high speed ram - i thru in a scan disk micro cruzer ( which you will have to delete exsiting info on the thumb drive first ) thumb drive 2 gigs - windows shows ready boost loaded on it , but I don't really notice much differance so far - maybe it kicks in when doing certain things - not really sure - maybe it only helps a puter who is really low on ram ? not sure ...... will report back later if ant good news - maybe this is just another Microsoft idea that doesn't work as promiced ! - anyone else with any luck with this , give us a report please - i know release is still a few days away soooooo i'll be waiting to hear from someone in time /......
